Professional Ethics

Ethical principles are far more than mere rules or regulations – they are maps for bringing out your best as a caregiver and healer. Responding to a lack of articulated and standardized ethical guidelines for energy healing practitioners, we commissioned the publication of two excellent textbooks on the subject.

They are The Ethics Handbook for Energy Healing Practitioners by David Feinstein, PhD, and Donna Eden, and Creating Healing Relationships by Dorothea Hover-Kramer, EdD. Their comprehensive, case-oriented guidance allows veterans of the field and newcomers alike to work through a wide range of ethical dilemmas before they arise, helping you to prevent professional errors that could hurt you, your clients, and your practice.

In this module you’ll read these two short ethics books, and complete an online test when you’re done. Below you will also find mini-quizzes, one for each section of the two textbooks.

We recommend you read the Ethics Handbook and take the mini-quizzes first. Then, read Creating Healing Relationships and take those mini-quizzes. Once you’ve completed this series of mini-quizzes successfully, you’ll be ready to take the full online test.

This is the shortest Module within EFT certification by far. Each of the two books takes less than 3 hours to read. So this module has only about 6 hours of reading. You can immerse yourself and complete it in a weekend. 

The end of the Ethics Handbook, past the Ethics Code on page 155, is optional reading. You also don’t need to ready past Future Developments on page 217 of Creating Healing Relationships unless you choose to.

Like those in the other certification Modules, the quizzes are “open book.” You can keep the PDF of a book open in one screen or tab while you answer the quiz questions on a second screen or tab. You can also use the “search” function within the PDF to locate key words from a question or answer. The objective of the quizzes is to help you remember the important points from the book, and having the book “open” while you complete the questions assists with the process. This makes it easy.

We’ve made it even easier by breaking each of the two books into four sections, each with a mini-quiz at the end.

You’ll also find several videos that are supplementary to the course. The material on these videos is not included in the mini-quizzes or final test. The video on Differences Between Psychotherapy and Coaching is a recap of Module 16 of the 4-Day Professional Skills Training workshop, and questions from it are included on the final test.

Once you’re familiar with the many issues involved in professional ethics, you’ll find them coming up repeatedly as you practice your skills with others. At the outset of your certification, this Module gives you education in ethics that will enable you to set clear boundaries with clients, other professionals, and members of your community.

You’ll also identify your “scope of practice” and what you can and cannot do as an energy healing professional. You’ll discover how governments and regulatory agencies view the field of complementary medicine (CAM), and the terms and language you must use on your web site, in your marketing, and with clients in order to maintain the highest ethical standards.

Since we published these textbooks and began training practitioners in professional ethics in 2010, our practitioners have been so ethically aware that ethical complaints have become almost nonexistent in our field.
